A campaign backed by an influential kaumātua wants to see a redesign for Hamilton’s coat of arms.

The new councillor said that the biggest challenge facing the council was the realisation that what was good for Māori was good for everyone. 

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Melaina Huaki in May.

Voting opens next week.
