Labour Leader, David Shearer has congratulated Labour candidate Meka Whaitiri on her win for the Ikaroa-Rāwhiti electorate.
He says while he was always confident Meka would take the seat he never wanted to come across too confident as the candidates she was up against ran very strong and clean campaigns.
Shearer also says he is impressed with how well the Mana Party did and the youthful following they have.
Shearer says he looks forward to welcoming Meka Whaitiri into the Labour Party caucus.
