Poroporo has retained the Fatty Nuku Memorial Trophy for 2016.
The club easily overcame Ruatoki Senior A at the Poroporo Rugby and Sport Club grounds, thanks to its strong Fijian contingent in the backs.
Ruatoki rallied its defence during the first half but Poroporo had already scored three tries.
From there Ruatoki could do little but succumb to a fast running game, going down 15 - 56 to Poroporo.
Meanwhile, rugby veteran Regan Merriman, who has more than 800 games for Murupara under his belt, says the spirit of the Fatty Nuku Baywide competition is suffering.
In the 45 years he has played in the competition he has noticed fewer spectators attending and that support among the five Bay clubs is on the wane.
"There’s no yahooing, there’s no wanting to walk across the paddock to beat spectators up. Now a lot of guys drink lemonade and don’t get involved as much in the running of the Fatty Nuku," he said.
