Hawke's Bay inches closer to 90% double dosed; 34 new cases

The post-Christmas Covid report from the Ministry of Health reveals just 34 new cases of the virus within the community; but that instances of the new Omicron variant are soaring in MIQ.

4 of the the 10 new Covid-19 cases at the border have been identified as Omicron, bringing the total of Omicron cases within MIQ to 49; officials say the highly contagious variant is yet to be identified in the community.

21 of the new community cases are within Tāmaki Makaurau with 7 in the Waikato, 2 in the Bay of Plenty, 3 within the lakes district and 1 in Canterbury.

There are 41 Covid-19 cases in Hospitals across the motu including Auckland: 15; Middlemore: 21; Tauranga: 5. The Average age of hospitalisations is 52

Health and welfare providers in Auckland are currently supporting 1495 people while they isolate. Of those people; 418 constitute active cases.

Waikato has cases in Te Kūiti, Hamilton and Te Kauwhata. 55 cases are currently being supported to isolate by Health and welfare providers.

Bay of Plenty has two cases located in Tauranga which have been linked to a known contact. Investigations are continuing to find connections to another case.

All 3 Rotorua cases have been linked to existing cases as has the new cases in Canterbury.

In some upbeat news for the Hawke's Bay, the region is only 192 second doses from hitting the 90 percent vaccination mark. It will be the 12th DHB to mark the achievement.

Vaccines administered yesterday*: 96 first doses; 740 second doses; 8 third primary doses and 903 booster dose.

Māori (percentage of eligible people): 499,246 first doses (87%); 455,341 second doses (80%)

Vaccines administered to date (percentage of eligible people): 3,971,856 first doses (94%); 3,835,627 second doses (91%); 27,958 third primary doses; 274,600 booster doses.
