Roast Busters triggers anti-violence protest

Today’s protest was a worthy cause against family violence.

In NZ, one in three women will experience some form of abuse during her life.

Minister David Cunliffe says it's a statistic that needs to change.

“Our statistics are not good.  One in every three NZ women will experience family violence during their lifetime.  It's shameful and we need to make sure the message is clear.”

The protest which was held down West Auckland's Lincoln Road is a result of the outrage caused by two young men and their Roast Busters page on Facebook.

Auckland police are urging victims to speak up.

Minister Cunliffe says men need to take more responsibility for their actions.

“Guys, if you know you can't handle your anger, then seek help, there are plenty of agencies that will give free anger management support.

We all know that life will have its ups and downs, but violence is not the answer.”

Today’s anti-violence campaigners began their journey from Waitākere Hospital and made their way to Falls Park, just to get the message out there family violence is not okay.
