Whangaparaoa College and Primary School in lockdown

Whangaparaoa College and Whangaparaoa Primary School have been placed in lockdown by Police.

According to a Police statement an 18 year-old man is reportedly in the area and is believed to be suffering from a mental health condition possibly armed with a knife.

The 18 year-old is not a current student at the school.

Several other schools in the area have gone into voluntary lock down.

A large number of Police units are in the area, both on foot and in cars.

The Eagle Helicopter has been dispatched to the area.

Police have advised parents of children at the schools to please refrain from calling the 111 centre at this stage for more information.
