In 1992, the then 17-year-old gang prospect confessed to the rape and murder of 39-year-old Susan Burdett, but evidence attesting to Pora's innocence has since surfaced and requests for a pardon have been denied.
Earlier this year, the Māori Party instigated the call for an inquiry into the case, a call that was supported by the Green Party's justice spokesman.
