Ngāti Rehia outrigger regatta takes-off

Crews were being put through their paces on the Kerikeri inlet today.

Getting out on the water at this time of the season is a daily must for competitors serious about seeking national honours.

According to Kaipo Brown of Ngā Kaihoe O Ngāti Rehia, “It's an important regatta for us here in Northland, so we can gauge who my main competitors are at Karāpiro, so I can figure out who they are.”

Despite the competitive presence, the Ngāti Rehia hosts maintain that the relationship between the people is the focus of their regatta, and now in its second year, they're blown away with the turnout.

Shortly, we shall see who from this region will make an impression at the nationals.
