Weavers share knowledge with students at Hoani Waititi Marae

Descendants of the late Taranaki elder Te Rū Wharehoka have made the journey to Auckland to share their knowledge with students of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Hoani Waititi Marae.

The school community as a whole was honoured to be hosting such a unique group, and Te Kāea was there to catch a glimpse of today's special exchange.

It's a whole new experience for these excited youngsters.

An expert of traditional weaving from Parihaka Pā says they have come to share their teachings with those keen to learn from them.

Aside from the hands on experience, the craft contains both spiritual and philosophies elements.

Tomorrow they will put all they've learned into a mock form of the 'Pāhua' commemorations, a fitting way to end the visit.
