'The Dark Horse' actor James Rolleston seriously injured in car crash

The Dark Horse actor James Rolleston has been seriously injured in a car accident near Ōpōtiki. The crash happened at around 10:30pm last night. He was airlifted to Tauranga Hospital.

The Herald spoke to his agent, Tim Gordon. He says 19-year-old Rolleston is awake and is surrounded by family.

It is not known whether Rolleston was a passenger or was the driver of the vehicle.

Rolleston is well-known for his role in several New Zealand films, including Taika Waititi's hit film Boy. He also had a lead role in the award-winning film Dark Horse, a real-life story of Genesis Potini, a New Zealand chess player who suffered from bipolar disorder.

No further details have been released.
