The small settlement of Te Aroha is home to the first born baby in the Waikato-Tainui region for 2015. Even though it's not the parents first baby, the arrival of their new year's baby girl was still surprising.
The first born baby born in Waikato for the year 2015 Jacque Emiri Taimana Tau-Te-Rangi Paeahi Montana Emery-Te Kani.
Baby Jacque arrived at 2:06am weighing in at 7lbs 4ozs at the Thames Birthing Unit.
Nikita Metekingi says, “She was due on Christmas Day, she actually wanted to stay a week longer.”
This is the third baby to Nikita and Jack from Te Aroha, and baby Jacque was named after her aunty.
Her aunty Jacque Metekingi says, “I actually travelled all the way from Wainui just to come see little Jacque. Being a proud aunty having her named after me is a privilege.”
It was the first time that both parents were not present for the birth of baby.
Jack McLaren says, “We dropped her off, settle her in the birthing unit, and then on the way home she was having baby.”
Nikita Metekingi says, “It was just myself and my midwife. My partner was heading back to get our car and then come back and thought he will watch baby come out, but I just pushed her out as soon as he left.”
