Rātana Pā residents report mysterious bang and jolt in the area

Ratana Pa residents are trying to figure out the cause of a large bang and jolt felt in the area at around 10:30 last night.

The unexplained bang followed by shaking was also felt in other areas including Palmerston North and Whanganui, with others saying they heard and felt the jolt in Titahi Bay, Porirua.

Residents in the Ratana Pā area took to social media after the event reporting that sirens were going off and helicopters were circulating the area.

Rātana Pā resident, Piri Rurawhe posted a video to Facebook to show all was well in the community following the jolt, however the cause was still a mystery to residents.

The Online News Team contacted the Whanganui District Council and the Rangitikei District Council this morning and both organisations were still unaware of the cause of the bang and said no official reports on the incident had been received.

A spokesperson for the Whanganui District Council said the bang was not related to any landslips or flood related issues in the area.
