Community shaken following axe attack

Residents in the area where an axe attack took place last night say they are extremely shaken by the violent events that occured.

One person is dead and others are injured following the attack  last night at different addresses in the Timberlea area in Upper Hut.

According to a police statement the scene has been cordoned off and officers are  speaking with residents in the area to establish what occurred.

A man has been arrested and will appear in court at 11am today charged with two counts of assault.  He is also facing a charge in relation to the death.

Two people have been taken to Hutt Hospital with moderate injuries.
