Today marks NZ's first mondayised public holiday

Today marks the country's first "mondayised" public holiday, commemorating Anzac Day.

Under law introduced by the Labour Party 18 months ago, if a public holiday such as Anzac and Waitangi Day falls on a weekend, it was automatically transferred to the closest Monday.

Most people around the country are enjoying today off with their families and the Labour Party, who introduced this law, says that's exactly how it should be, allowing New Zealanders to enjoy the freedoms our soldiers fought for.

However, because this is the first time the law has come into effect, there's been some confusion among businesses, according to a spokesperson for the Employers and Manufacturers Association.

Te Kāea wanted to talk to the spokesperson about the effects but he was on holiday so perhaps it wasn't too much of a problem.

The Prime Minister is in Dubai meeting with heads of state there about strengthening business relations. John Key is leading an 18-strong delegation of New Zealand business people promoting the sector.

The Prime Minister is looking at bringing the NZ-GCC free trade agreement into force.

Tomorrow, MPs will be back at the Beehive. The House has been in recess for the last three weeks.

Tomorrow will also see the new MP for New Zealand First sworn in, Ria Bond of Ngāti Hine and Ngāpuhi descent.
