Māori musician Troy Kingi is looking for "an older gentleman" to grace the cover of his new album Guitar Party at Uncles Bach. He took to Facebook to get the word out.
Kingi says, “This man could be your Uncle, your Dad, your koro, your cousin, your neighbour, your dry cleaner or it could even be YOU!”
He goes on to outline the sort of person he is looking for. In true Troy Kingi form, he uses his unique humour to reel in possible candidates.
Some might see his requirements as slightly unorthodox, but his wit has attracted a lot of attention.
People have already nominated their own koroua, some of those put forward without permission.
Kingi is looking for a 40 to 60-year-old Māori male with “character features” and a “natural smile”. He also says he doesn’t mind “a few missing teeth” and would prefer someone with dark skin, “the darker the better”.
Although Kingi would prefer the successful applicant to be from the Far North, he is open to anyone from around Aotearoa.
He plans to get back to all applicants within two days.
Kingi ends his post by saying, “Look forward to seeing all these handsome dudes. Please share share share whānau. This album is my baby so I'm trying to scour the deepest corners, the secret nooks and untouched crannies of this rugged terrain to find that hidden diamond. I can't do it without your help.”
If you think you know someone who fits the criteria, take a photo of your uncle, cousin, koro or dad and sent it to him via Facebook message here.
